PROFILE & CHRONOLOGY

(Japanese)

My debut work entitled "Diamond Structure" was exhibited in the 7th Ube Biennale (Contemporary Japanese Sculpture Exhibition) held in Ube city, Yamaguchi prefecture in 1977. After the exhibition, the work-piece was moved to the Utsukushi-ga-hara open-air museum in Nagano prefecture for permanent display.

Since the time when I created this sculpture, I was thinking that it would be best suited to the sky as its background, more specifically with the changing appearance of the clouds of the sky seen through it. However, I was not sure whether it was the effective way of viewing the work, as I had no way of verifying this idea once the work was sent out on the display site.

One day, I was thrilled to see the photograph of this work-piece with a background of clouds on the internet. Since I found it by chance, I had no idea about who took it and uploaded it, or for what purpose. I, however, firmly believe that I share the thoughts of whoever took the photograph.

This sculpture taking the shape of human forms in a crystal structure depicts mankind rising up into the sky against the cruelty of nature.

I wish someday in the future I can have an opportunity to meet the people who viewed my work including the person who took the photograph.
